Dr. Tan Yeow May

SRP Registered Psychologist

D.Psych (Clinical) | Clinical Psychologist

Dr Tan is a clinical psychologist experienced in working therapeutically with adolescents and adults across a variety of Government and Community settings in Western Australia and Singapore. This includes individuals within in- and out-patient psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and in private practice, and with male and female offenders in forensic and prison settings.

Having worked with persons individually and in groups, she appreciates the uniqueness of each individual's experiences; the way one perceives the world and navigates the world around them. She has been assisting persons struggling with mood and anxiety, adjustment, psychosis, and trauma-related problems, in addition to those with characterological difficulties, intra- and inter-psychic conflicts, familial dysfunction, self-harm, and existential issues.

Dynamically oriented, she focuses on addressing underlying issues that often mask as problematic symptoms. Her clinical approach considers each person's history and background, and draws upon psychodynamic and interpersonal psychotherapy, attachment- and relational-based theories, schema therapy, and cognitive-behavioural interventions.

Dr Tan has a special interest in personality disorders and published her doctoral thesis on schema therapy and borderline personality disorder in an open access journal. She completed a one-year program in relational studies at New York. She sees adults and adolescents, and provides clinical supervision.

"She appreciates the uniqueness of each individual's experiences; the way one perceives the world and navigates the world around them."
